McPherson Housing Coalition has applied for grant funding to start a Homeless Prevention Assistance Program for residents of McPherson County from the Kansas Resource Housing Corporation.
The funding will be used to provide the program and financial assistance for families at risk of becoming homeless. The funding will be used to pay for back rent, rent, back utilities, utilities and services to help the families gain stablity in their current housing environment.
If funded, the program will take affect July 1, 2015 and run through June 30, 2016.
The grant funding is provided through The Homeless Emergency Assistance and Rapid Transition to Housing Act of 2009 (HEARTH Act) amended the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, including major revisions to the Emergency Shelter Grants program, now the Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) program.
The ESG program is designed to identify sheltered and unsheltered homeless persons, as well as those at risk of homelessness, and provide the services necessary to help those persons quickly regain stability in permanent housing after experiencing a housing crisis and/or homelessness.
